Abstract
The Myth of Krue Se Mosque, particularly as cultural heritage, plays a
significant role to represent Malayu-Muslim cultural identity, theMyth of Krue Se also
consists of contestedmyth and exists in themidst of current conflict. The objectives
of this research are to understand the problem, consequences and impact of the
uses of heritage the Krue SeMosqueMyth as well as examine stakeholders’ concept,
aspect and cultural heritage management during insurgency in the three
southernmost provinces of Thailand. The research methodology includes collecting
secondary data, participant observation and in-depth interviews through stakeholders
which can be divided into six groups. These are: the heritage carriers, the insiders, the
outsiders, the academics, the government and the media. Three aspects are
explored: first there is the use of heritage as a cultural resource, secondly, heritage is
used as political resource. Thirdly, heritage is used as an economic resource
supporting tourism, which tends to collaborate the Myth of Krue Se Mosque cultural
heritagewith local history.
