The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop a non–formal education program to enhance Transformational
Buddhist Leadership for Thai Nuns; 2) implement a non – formal education program to enhance Transformational Buddhist
Leadership for Thai Nuns; and 3) study factors and conditions related to the use of non – formal education programs to
enhance Transformational Buddhist Leadership for Thai Nuns. This study was based on the Experimental Research One
GroupPretest-Posttest design. The samples in this study consisted of 30Thai Nuns. Instruments used for collecting datawere
scales and open-end questionnaires, in-depth interview forms and group discussion guidelines. Data were analyzed by using
the two-tailed t-test.
The research findingswere as follows:
1.
The components of a non-formal education program to enhance Transformational Buddhist Leadership for Thai
Nunswere : 1) Identificationof theBasis for theProgram, 2) SituationAnalysis of Community andClientele, 3) Identification of
Desired Outcomes, 4) Identification of Resources and Support, 5) Design of an Instructional Plan, 6) Program of Action, 7)
Accountability of Resources, and 8) Communication of theValue of the Program. Therewere two essential parts of the program;
onewas the learning process through the awareness of body, mind and thoughts. The other part was to utilize an instructional
methodswhich related todeep-listening, a process of thinking for planning, key point apprehension, simplifying communication,
deep and related questioning, and learning conclusion.
2. There was no significant differences between the pre-test and post-test in the experimental group at the .05
level. However, there was an increase in Transformational Buddhist Leadership for the Thai Nuns in the following aspects:
communication, creativity, self-confidence,morality, focus, acceptance, and flexibility.
3. The factors concerning the non-formal education program and the conditions related to the use of the program
that might have affected the program including 1) selecting participantswith approximately the same number of years of nun
hood, 2) the instructors’ understanding of dharma philosophy 3) practicality of course content, 4) stressing analytical thinking
on the part of the participants, 5)
the
sufficient time allowed for conducting the program, and 6) a place of instruction
conducive to learning.
Conditions related to the use of the programwere: Firstly, the course material should be presented in order from
simple to complex. Secondly, the instructors should elicit more classroom participation to improve the self-confidence of the
participants.
