Abstract
This research are aimed to study the character of social power, to analyze the
process of social power constructed, and to analyze the results of the social
community of community in mangrove forest management. Qualitative research
study of two communities in the Paklok Bay; Ban Paklok and Ban Bangronh. Storage
of documents, observation and focus group interviews of key informants.
The results showed that the character of social power of communities, are the
power which in the social structure of the community such as kinship, social group,
temples, mosques, schools and local administration. And the power which
interaction between community and outside organization such as including
government agencies, private companies, institutions of higher education,
Nongovernmental organizations (NGO), and media institutions. The type of social
power of the community such as coercion, the reference to higher authority, the
authority, and credibility. The results achieved by the resources of social power,
including the power to punish and reward, information, righteousness, and
specialized institutions. The process of social power in the management of the
community forest can be classified into five periods.
First of all, the crisis of living.
Then, the formation in public space. Next, social movement. After that, the
community welfare. Finally, the development of the institution. The outcome of
social power of the community such as food security, stability in life, the
relationships in the community, the relationship between the community and
government agencies, bargaining power of the community, occupation and income,
current conservation in Paklok bay, and learning communities.
