Abstract
The objectives of this research were 1) to compare the Maniq tribe
management between Thailand and Malaysia, and 2) to study guidelines in
promoting repatriationof Sritarnto family of Maniq. This researchwas a qualitative
study by in-depth interviewing key informants including groups of people,
local leaders, government officers who lived in the area of Tambon Ban Rae,
Tarntodistrict, Yalaprovince. Data collectionwas performed via in-depth interview
with 15 subjects, following the interviewing guideline issues. Data analysis was
doneusing logical context description supplementedwithdescriptive statistics.
The research results were summarized as follows. 1) The welfare that
Thai government provided for Sritarnto family of Maniq who lived in Sakai
(Maniq) village Tambon Ban Rae, Tarnto district, Yala province, was opined by
nearly all informants to be inferior to that provided by Malaysia government.
2) For repatriation trend of Sritarnto family of Maniq, nearly all informants
viewed that Sritarnto family of Maniq inclined to return to live in Sakai
village if government sector would render the welfare just as Malaysia did,
local people were sincere, and the area was secure and safe, which,
initially, the repatriation should be done in successive manner group by
group. 3) Most informants viewed that problems in promoting repatriation
of the Maniq tribe came from their lifestyle habit of roaming about the
forest for its products but the environment did not serve well because of
