ABSTRACT
The research objective is to study about the cultural adaptation to the local
resources management of Chong ethnic group by a Anthropological research method.
The target group is Chong ethnic group and the scope of research area is Ban Klong
Ploo, Khao Kitchakood District, Chantaburi Province.
The result was that Chong ethnic group all lived together, mostly residing among
their relative kindred. They were long time living along the Chantaburi River, specifically
around Ban Klong Ploo, Klong Ploo Subdistrict, Khao Kitchakood District, Chantaburi
Province and nearby area. They had their own specific dialogue, individuality, and group
ritual; for example wedding ceremony, doing good for paddy field after harvesting, worship
before shrine, shelf and coffin sprits ceremony. Thier ceremonies and specific dialogue
were relative culture management between Chong people and the local resources. But
when themodern structural context on economic, social, and culture relationship came in
by the local development current, it resulted indeclining of ethnic group priority.
When the structural relationship of the local people had changed, it caused
Ban
Klong Ploo People to adopt there culture, this had been done by adopting their dialogue
and ceremonies in corresponding to the new structural contexts. The cultural divide into
three areas: (1) exhibits the life and culture has been showcasing the culture interesting the
exhibits village of Chong to the field in the past to life, (2) the dialogue that Chong people
had created the new Chong dialogue songs andChong alphabets, in order to conserve and
revive Chong dialogue ever since. (3) the ritual, it was found that worship to ancestor dead
spirit was an important process to persist Chong people on their consciousness. Besides,
this ceremony still resulted in building up the relationship between different people group
in the community. They also shared common belief that the ancestor dead spirit was a
sacred thing on which it can protect and help the local people to get happiness,
prosperity, and safety. Therefore, it, in expressing deep gratitude to sacred thing, is a very
important lifestyle of Chong people to arrange the relationship between people and
people, and alsopeople and the local resources.
