methodology using observation, interviews, inductive analysis, focus groups as well as receiving
comments from experts in the field to form its conclusion.
The research found that authentic values of Thai martial arts as practiced by Kru Vichit
Cheechoern consists of 2 main parts: the value of the subject as a self-defense art, and moral-social
values, particularly gratitude and “
pen-muay
”, two important qualities that students can apply to their
everyday life.
The most important aspect of Kru Vichit’s transmission process is creating faith in the
authentic values of Thai martial arts among his students, while his main method of transmission is being
a living example of those values.
Students who participated in the Thai martial arts activities are physically strong, agile and
healthy, they are confident and filled with gratitude towards their parents and teachers. They had also
acquired problem solving skills and new outlooks to life.
