Results of rapid social change is an indicator of the tendency in the role of a competition
as grambling. That is, there is an occurrence of many new Bung Fire teams competing in Boon
Bung Fire tradition at present. Therefore, it can be seen that Boon Bung Fire tradition becomes to
be part of competition and every Bung Fire team wants to be number one or the champion. The
existing of Boon Bung Fire tradition depends on the beliefs, faith and values of the communities
which has both negative and positive impacts. For the negative aspect, making Bung Fire is an
investment and the money is obtained from the donation of villagers which aims to compete with
other teams and do gramble. Considering on Bung Fire lighting for competition and grambling, it
can be said that the investment on Bung Fire making is absolutely useless since there is a
completion for number one or grambling among each group of villagers. This can be observed
that the beliefs, faith and values have been changing at present until it reaches the stage of
negative impact towards Boon Bung Fire tradition. For positive impact, local people are able to
maintain Boon Bung Fire tradition and be with their respective communities. Besides, Boon Bung
Fire tradition at present can attract tourists to visit and spend money there.
Saen Don Ta is a tradition of making merit for ancestor ghosts of the Khmer in South-
Eastern E-Sarn province: Srisaket, Surin, and Burirum. This tradition is done every tenth month
of the year. In the past, it was believed that new generations must make merit on Saen Do Ta day
for their ancestors. If they do not do it, their ancestors had to see those whose new generations
make merit for them eating food. Not only this, the ancestors will also curse their new generations
who do not making merit for them. In contrast, they will bless their new generations who make
merit for them on Saen Don a day. This belief has been instilled by parents and grand parents that
Saen Don Ta ritual ceremony is a sign of gratitude towards ancestors. For these reasons, Saen
Don Ta tradition still exists in the Khmer community in Thailand at present in all aspects of
beliefs , faith, values, components of ritual ceremony and steps in the ritual ceremony.
Based on results of the study, people of Phumkhanoon village, Sano sub-district,
Khukhan district, Srisaket province still practised Saen Don Ta tradition completely and correctly.
In fact, Saen Don Ta tradition is an old belief that had been practicing up to the present. There is
inheritance on Buddhism custom, and culture in Saen Don Ta tradition. Main offerings are Khao
Tom Mud which is made from banana, coconut milk, sticky rice and sugar. Banana is used in a so
big amount for this tradition that government units in Khukhan district have arranged Saen-Wee
